Comeback Season

For my Winter Art show, I created a teapot set. My set includes two teapots with 3 cups and 3 saucers for those cups. Teapots are the most challenging form in ceramics to make which is why I decided to create them because I wanted to challenge myself. They’re so challenging because there are so many components to them. To make one you must wheel throw a cylinder and shape it to how you want your teapot to look. Then you throw a lid and a spout. Cut a hole in the body and score and slip a handle and the spout to the body. That is how I created mine. For my first teapot, I created a teapot with the handle on the side of the teapot body. For my second teapot, I created it the same way but instead the body is shorter and the handle goes over the top of the body. The cups and saucers were fairly simple to make. The cups are small cylinders that are shaped a little to look like cups. The saucers are small plates that I have a circle carved out in the center to elevate the look. For this year's art show I want to briefly give my story on why I named my show “Comeback Season”. Last year my art show got run over while drying in the parking lot. What I thought was going to be a strong art show turned into turning in my only 3 pieces that survived. That’s why I named my art show “Comeback Season”. I want people to see the perseverance and persistence through this year's art show and the growth I went through when facing adversity.
